Circle Stock Faces Fed Decision as Reserve Income Offsets Yield Pressure

Circle Internet Group stock closed Friday at $90.60, up 0.31% for the session but down 11.22% for the week. The stock traded between $90.14 and $95.80 during the day, finishing near the lower end of that range.

CME FedWatch data shows approximately 87% odds of a quarter-point Federal Reserve rate hike before the central bank's September 15–16 meeting and Wednesday announcement. The prospect creates competing pressures for Circle's business: higher short-term rates may improve yields on cash and Treasury assets backing USDC reserves, but tighter financial conditions could weaken overall crypto demand and investor risk appetite.

Reserve Income Growth Offset by Yield Decline

Circle reported $668 million in second-quarter reserve income, representing approximately 95.3% of total revenue. The figure increased 5.3% year-over-year as USDC circulation rose 25.2%. However, the average reserve yield fell 66 basis points, offsetting much of the balance growth.

Recent inflation readings have strengthened the case for a Fed rate increase. August core consumer prices rose 0.3% monthly, above the 0.2% estimate, while headline inflation increased 0.4% monthly and 3.4% yearly.

Key Price Levels and Policy Events

Technical analysis places $90 as a critical support level for CRCL stock. A decisive close below $90 would expose $87.14 as the next downside target. Bulls need to reclaim $95 to establish momentum, with the $100 psychological level forming the next test. Sustained buying above $100 could reopen resistance between $103 and $105, followed by $107 and $110.

The outlook also includes a Senate procedural vote on the CLARITY Act scheduled for Tuesday. The legislation seeks clearer regulatory boundaries for digital assets. Although 60 votes are required to advance debate and the vote does not enact the bill, its progress may affect sentiment toward Circle and other crypto-linked companies.

Investors will monitor the Fed's rate decision, economic projections, and guidance for signals about prolonged tightening, which could pressure technology, fintech, and digital-asset valuations more broadly.
