Coinbase has expanded its financial products by opening initial public offering allocations to eligible US retail customers. The service is provided through Coinbase Capital Markets, the company's FINRA-registered broker-dealer.
Oura is the first IPO available through the platform. Eligible users can submit a Conditional Offer to Buy at the IPO offer price before public trading begins, rather than purchasing shares after they start trading on the open market.
Allocations remain subject to availability, eligibility checks, and the platform's allocation process. Not every request will necessarily receive shares.
Incentives for Longer-Term Holding
Coinbase has implemented controls designed to encourage longer-term participation. One key measure is a 30-day holding incentive: users who sell allocated IPO shares within 30 days face a 60-day lockout from future IPO participation.
Expansion Beyond Crypto Trading
The IPO service represents another step in Coinbase's expansion beyond spot cryptocurrency trading. By integrating IPO access into the same app used for digital assets, the company is moving into territory traditionally occupied by retail brokerages.
Coinbase is not an underwriter of the Oura IPO and does not guarantee allocations to customers who submit requests. The product is limited to customers who meet required eligibility checks, and availability is restricted to eligible US residents.
