Crypto Market Awaits US Economic Data as JPMorgan Signals CPI Focus for Fed Decision

The cryptocurrency market has retreated as investors brace for significant US economic data releases scheduled over the coming weeks. US nonfarm payroll figures are expected this week, followed by Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Producer Price Index (PPI) inflation data next week, which could influence the Federal Reserve's monetary policy decisions.

JPMorgan has indicated that while US job creation data will play an important role, the CPI report will be more decisive in determining the central bank's next move. The financial services firm identifies monthly US job creation between 30,000 and 70,000 as the optimal range for upcoming payroll data.

Labor Market Expectations

Wall Street currently expects 53,000 new US jobs in August, a significant increase from the previous month's decline of 23,000. The unemployment rate is expected to remain stable at 4.1 percent.

If job creation significantly exceeds JPMorgan's anticipated range, markets could interpret the data as evidence of economic resilience despite inflation concerns. Stronger hiring would support consumer spending but could also add to inflationary pressures and increase Treasury yields, potentially weighing on risk assets including cryptocurrencies.

Fed Rate Hike Expectations

According to the CME FedWatch Tool, the probability of a Federal Reserve rate hike in September stands at 64.2 percent. Recent remarks from Fed Chair Kevin Warsh and Governor Michael Barr have reinforced expectations for a hawkish policy shift aimed at controlling inflation.

Investors are monitoring these developments closely, as softer-than-anticipated economic data could ease inflation concerns, while stronger-than-expected figures could trigger additional downside pressure on risk-sensitive assets like cryptocurrencies.
