Crypto News Outlet Cointelegraph Reportedly Seeking a Buyer

Cryptocurrency media company Cointelegraph is currently looking for a buyer, according to a person familiar with the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity. The financial terms of the potential sale have not been disclosed.

Founded in 2013, the digital asset news outlet employs more than 200 people according to its LinkedIn page. The publication was previously acquired in July 2022 by Luna Media Corporation to support global and regional expansions.

The media firm's search for a buyer follows a period of challenges affecting its web traffic and the wider digital asset media sector. A prolonged phase of flat cryptocurrency prices has shifted user attention away from crypto news, impacting several newsrooms.

In addition to market conditions, Cointelegraph experienced a steep decline in web traffic following a manual penalty issued by Google in October 2025, which caused the site to drop out of search results and resulted in an estimated 80% decrease in organic traffic. Prior to that penalty, the website experienced a front-end exploit in June 2024.

Similarweb data illustrates the impact on the platform's readership, showing that the website drew over 12 million monthly visits in December 2024, but saw monthly traffic fall to just above 700,000 by September 1.

Cointelegraph did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the reports.
