Dormant Bitcoin Whale Withdraws 3,009 BTC from Binance After Year-Long Silence

A long-dormant Bitcoin wallet has withdrawn 3,009 BTC, worth approximately $228 million at the time, from Binance, according to on-chain analytics firm Lookonchain. The address had been inactive for over a year and previously deposited 5,699 BTC to the same exchange when Bitcoin was trading near $89,000.

Details of the withdrawal

Lookonchain flagged the activity on November 6, 2026, describing it as the address's first significant on-chain action in more than a year. The withdrawals occurred in several tranches: one batch moved 437 BTC (about $33 million), and four additional batches moved roughly 643 BTC each, totaling 3,009 BTC. Market coverage rounded the figure to 3,000 BTC worth $230 million accumulated over two days.

During the withdrawal period, Bitcoin was trading around $75,000 to $76,000, well below the roughly $89,000 level at which the same wallet had earlier sent coins to Binance. The wallet remains unlabeled, with no public identification of a name, fund, or company behind it. Lookonchain and Arkham Intelligence provided the primary data.

A partial buyback

The address had previously deposited 5,699 BTC into Binance, which coverage describes as selling holdings in late 2024 and early 2025. The latest withdrawals cover 3,009 of those coins—a little more than half of the prior deposit. This suggests a partial buyback, with the whale rebuilding a position it had wound down rather than deploying new capital.

Why exchange withdrawals attract attention

When Bitcoin is moved off an exchange to a private wallet, the transfer becomes visible on-chain. Analytics firms track these flows and flag large movements. The withdrawal was split into five transfers rather than one, indicating a deliberate, staged approach. Coins held in private wallets are not available on exchange order books, reducing the supply readily available for sale.

What to watch

While a single unlabeled wallet moving $228 million is significant, it is not decisive for an asset of Bitcoin's size, and the whale has only bought back about half of what it previously deposited. Observers will watch whether the wallet continues withdrawing from Binance toward its earlier 5,699 BTC position, whether other dormant addresses follow with similar outflows, and whether the coins remain in cold storage or reappear on an exchange later. If the remaining 2,690 or so coins come back off the exchange, the buyback story would strengthen.
