Ethereum ETFs have recorded outflows for 23 consecutive weeks, signaling diminishing institutional interest in holding ETH. After strong demand through August and September, withdrawals accelerated in October, totaling over $1 billion by the 30th. BlackRock's ETHA contributed $76.6 million of the $155.8 million withdrawn in the final session of that month.
The persistent outflows have coincided with ETH's decline from nearly $2,700 in late September to approximately $2,300. Continued institutional withdrawals may constrain price support, as spot buyers have yet to absorb the selling pressure significantly.
On October 31st, Ethereum experienced a chain reorganization that disrupted operations on THORChain. A block containing a 10 ETH deposit tied to a THORChain swap was replaced, creating a double refund situation. After the deposit was already reflected in THORChain's ledger and refunded for the failed swap, its removal left THORChain's vault short 10 ETH. The protocol responded with an emergency halt across all 12 supported chains, causing delays to cross-chain transactions including transfers of stolen funds from Binance.
Ethereum now faces dual pressures: weakening institutional investment demand and concerns about cross-chain transaction reliability. For ETH to stabilize, renewed inflows into ETH-based ETFs alongside improved transaction security measures will be necessary.
