Ethereum has recovered to $2,500, a significant technical level where institutional demand through exchange-traded funds is being tested. The move marks Ethereum's return to its realized price after 108 days of trading below it, a milestone that shifts market dynamics for holders.
Realized Price Recovery Reduces Selling Pressure
When Ethereum's price crosses above its realized price—the average amount all holders collectively paid for the asset—it signals that all holders have at least some unrealized gains. After 108 days underwater, this shift matters because investors near breakeven have historically been motivated to sell to recover their capital. With fewer holders trapped in losses, the potential for reduced selling pressure and increased buying power may emerge, though the shift only becomes meaningful if ETH sustains prices above this cost basis.
Institutional ETF Demand Accelerates
Weekly Ethereum ETF inflows reached $824.42 million in the most recent period, up from $697.18 million the previous week. Total ETF assets climbed from $10.52 billion on August 14 to $15.23 billion, a 5.28% increase. This pattern shows institutions increased exposure as ETH approached $2,500, rather than reducing positions after the rally. Sustained ETF buying can absorb available supply and help buyers defend higher prices during pullbacks, though strong flows have not yet secured $2,500 as a stable support level.
Technical Resistance Ahead
Ethereum's rapid advance into new territory stalled just short of $2,458, suggesting bulls have yet to establish a solid floor at $2,500. If buyers can push through this level, additional potential for upward continuation to the previous breakout area at $2,568 may follow. Conversely, if $2,426 is breached downward, it could signal growing bearish pressure. Continued institutional inflows alongside sustained closes above $2,500 would provide stronger evidence that demand is supporting lasting price acceptance.
