Robinhood Stock Tracks Economic Data as Jobs Claims and Inflation Reports Shape Outlook

Robinhood stock traded near $113.24 on October 1 as investors assessed new economic data on unemployment and inflation. Bitcoin price stood around $83,975, while Ethereum traded near $2,700 and XRP hovered at $1.49.

Jobs Data Shows Resilient Labor Market

U.S. initial jobless claims totaled 197,000 for the week ended September 26, according to the Labor Department, coming in lower than the 201,000 forecast. The previous reading was revised to 198,000, making the latest result a modest weekly decline. The four-week average fell to 200,000, offering a steadier indication of labor conditions than a single weekly reading.

Continuing claims declined by 11,000 to 1.701 million, pointing to fewer people receiving benefits beyond their first week. However, low claims measure limited layoffs and cannot establish that employers are accelerating recruitment across the economy. The separate September payroll report was scheduled for October 2 and promised to provide broader evidence on hiring trends.

Inflation Remains Above Federal Reserve Target

Wednesday's inflation release showed annual core PCE inflation at 3.0%, with the monthly measure increasing 0.2%. Headline PCE inflation reached 3.4%, leaving overall price pressures above the Federal Reserve's 2% target.

In September, policymakers hiked their benchmark rate to 3.75%–4.00%. These figures may reduce pressure for additional tightening, but they do not establish an immediate shift toward rate cuts.

Implications for Robinhood Business

Investor confidence and trading activity in equities, options, and cryptocurrencies are potential drivers for Robinhood stock. Higher cryptocurrency prices would help sentiment, and revenue would require customers to increase their trading volumes.

Lower rates could eventually encourage trading, although they could also reduce earnings from interest-bearing customer balances. Robinhood's latest quarterly results showed that lower short-term rates partially offset growth in its interest-earning assets. The company reported $100 million in second-quarter cryptocurrency revenue, down 38% from a year earlier.

Technical Levels

Technical analysis identified $113.60–$113.70 as the next technical challenge for Robinhood stock. Maintaining the upside structure would require holding $113.00, with the next material pivot at $112.50. A loss of that pivot would put $112.00 in perspective, with the surrounding low at $111.50.
