Ethereum reclaimed the $2,500 price level as significant structural changes reshaped where ETH is held across the market.
Exchange Outflows Drive Supply Shift
Exchange balances declined from 14.8 million ETH to 25.7 million ETH since May 2025, a decrease of approximately 28%. September data showed continued migrations off exchanges, reducing the amount of liquid tokens immediately available for sale.
The tightening of exchange supply means less ETH is readily accessible for trading. Whether the price holds above $2,500 depends on future demand patterns. Rising buyer interest could support recovery with reduced liquidity helping to sustain gains, while a reversal to sellers could amplify any downturn due to the same supply constraints.
Staking Removes Tokens from Circulation
Staked ETH rose from approximately 29.8% in September 2025 to 35.56% by September 18, 2026, continuing a steady upward trend that began in January. The growing staking activity steadily removes tokens from circulation, further reducing available supply for market trading.
The Funding Rate sat near 0.0046 at the time of analysis, indicating leverage has not risen sharply alongside staking activity. Rising staking percentages strengthen the supply-side structure of the ETH market, making price movements more sensitive to spot demand and the total supply available for trading.
ETF Inflows Absorb Supply
U.S. Spot ETH ETFs accumulated approximately $13.25 billion in total inflows, with total assets reaching approximately $16.7 billion. This represents around 5.2% of Ethereum's market value, a significantly larger institutional presence than in May 2025.
BlackRock's ETHA leads ETF expansion with more than $9 billion in assets. Recent daily flows have remained uneven, alternating between large outflows and inflows as high as $143.8 million, indicating active but inconsistent institutional demand near $2,500.
The growth of ETF products moves more coins off open exchanges and into regulated structures, further reducing ETH available for traditional exchange trading.
