President Donald Trump named Hyperliquid (HYPE) at the White House, marking his ninth crypto endorsement since taking office. While prior picks trade an average of 60% below their pre-endorsement prices, analysts are watching to see if HYPE can escape the historical pattern.
During a White House gathering with executives from Coinbase, Ripple, Nasdaq, and other firms, Trump mentioned Hyperliquid. Following the comment, HYPE jumped 14% within two hours, moving from $62.23 to nearly $71. At press time, the token traded near $71.45, up 21.3% over 24 hours, with a market capitalization of $15.9 billion that placed it tenth overall. Additionally, Nasdaq-listed company Hyperliquid Strategies closed 30% higher on its best day on record.
Regulatory Backing Sets HYPE Apart
Trump stated that Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Chairman Michael Selig is working to bring Hyperliquid into the United States in a compliant and legal fashion. Selig was scheduled to chair the first session of the CFTC's new Innovation Advisory Committee, with further details expected to follow.
This institutional involvement distinguishes HYPE from previous endorsements. In March 2025, a proposed crypto reserve announcement initially boosted XRP, Solana, and Cardano (ADA) before an executive order limited the reserve to Bitcoin and barred government altcoin purchases. Similarly, previous pushes for the Official Trump (TRUMP) token eventually resulted in substantial losses for holders.
The test for Hyperliquid centers on whether regulatory steps materialize. The CFTC approved onshore perpetual futures in May and received petitions from Hyperliquid and Phantom in July regarding decentralized finance rules. Observers are monitoring whether a registration pathway or exemption emerges to determine if HYPE can defy the historical trend of prior presidential endorsements.
