Hunter Biden, son of former U.S. President Joe Biden, launched a meme coin named LAPTOP on Base on September 9, 2026. The token's name references the personal computer that became a focal point of American politics following reports regarding its contents published in 2019.
LAPTOP was issued on Base, a layer-2 network built on Ethereum by Coinbase. The token's total supply is fixed at one billion, distributed across several allocations:
- Founders: 30% held by founders, including Biden, locked for six months and vesting fully after two years.
- Airdrops: 20% reserved for distribution to specific wallets.
- Conditional Burn: 30% tied to the outcomes of 30 preset events, with unfulfilled events routing tokens to charity.
- Charity, Liquidity, and Foundation: 20% allocated for exchange partners, market makers, and administrative costs.
A portion of the airdrop is designated for wallets that incurred losses on TRUMP, the meme coin launched by U.S. President Donald Trump in January 2025. Other eligible wallets include subscribers to Biden's Substack and a mailing list from video journalist Andrew Callaghan's Channel 5 program.
Following its launch at 8:00 AM ET, blockchain intelligence firm Arkham recorded a peak price of $190.81 two minutes later. Due to thin liquidity and heavy selling, the token fell roughly 99% within hours, trading near $1.97 by that afternoon.
