Hunter Biden officially entered the memecoin market with the launch of the LAPTOP token on September 9, 2026. The token is built on Base, Coinbase's Ethereum Layer-2 network, and draws its inspiration from the controversial laptop linked to Biden that surfaced in 2019.
The token has a fixed supply capped at 1 billion tokens. According to the project details, Biden described the initiative as a way to reclaim a narrative that became a significant political issue during the 2020 U.S. presidential election and later appeared in his 2024 federal gun case.
Tokenomics and Distribution
The supply distribution for LAPTOP is structured across several categories:
- Founders and Core Team: 30% of the supply is allocated to the founders and core team, subject to a six-month lockup followed by a gradual release over two years.
- Event-Linked Supply: 30% of the total supply is tied to 30 real-world political, crypto, and cultural events, such as a Democrat winning the 2028 U.S. presidential election, Bitcoin hitting a new all-time high, and LAPTOP's fully diluted valuation surpassing TRUMP.
- Community Airdrop: 20% of the supply, equivalent to 200 million tokens, is dedicated to a community airdrop. This distribution includes eligible subscribers to Biden's Substack newsletter and traders who lost money on Donald Trump's TRUMP memecoin.
- Liquidity: 10% is designated for trading liquidity to facilitate buying and selling.
- Foundation: 5% goes to the Phoenix Veritas Foundation to support development and project infrastructure.
