Hyperliquid Whale Bitcoin Shorts Reach Highest Since October 2025

The largest accounts on Hyperliquid have pushed their Bitcoin short positions to the highest level since October 2025, with short exposure nearly double long exposure, according to data cited as of Nov. 7, 2026.

Short and long exposure

Hyperliquid whales held between $892 million and $924 million in Bitcoin shorts. Their Bitcoin longs totaled between $454 million and $483 million.

The resulting net short bias was estimated at between $345 million and $470 million, depending on the snapshot used.

The largest single whale short was approximately $178.5 million, opened at an entry price around $76,390. Other notable shorts included positions of $155 million and $101.8 million, plus several more exceeding $60 million each.

Bitcoin was trading around $75,800 to $76,000 at the time of the data.

When positioning flipped

Hyperliquid whales flipped to a net short position on Oct. 27, 2026, and have been adding to that stance since.

Total Bitcoin perpetual open interest on Hyperliquid was roughly $3.13 billion. Whale positioning represents a sizable slice of that pool.

Hyperliquid runs on its own Layer-1 blockchain and has become one of the more closely watched venues for leveraged crypto trading. Because large positions there are visible, traders across the market tend to treat whale moves on the exchange as a sentiment gauge.

The bearish lean was not limited to Bitcoin. Some of the same significant whale accounts were also shorting HYPE, Hyperliquid’s native token.

What traders are watching

The straightforward read is that the platform’s largest players expect Bitcoin to fall in the near term. A net short bias of this size points to prevailing bearish sentiment among well-capitalized traders.

Heavy short interest concentrated around current price levels creates the conditions for a short squeeze. If Bitcoin climbs instead of falling, short sellers face mounting losses. Some may be forced to close their positions, and closing a short means buying the asset back.

Entry prices matter. The largest whale opened its short around $76,390, just above where Bitcoin has been trading. Sustained moves above the entry levels of the biggest shorts would put real pressure on those accounts.

Traders watching from the sidelines are focused on a few markers. The first is whether the net short bias keeps growing or starts to unwind. The second is Bitcoin’s behavior around the $76,000 area, where the largest short entries cluster. The third is the HYPE shorts. If bearish bets on the exchange’s own token continue to build alongside the Bitcoin positions, it would reinforce the picture of broad caution among the platform’s biggest players rather than a narrow trade on a single asset.

The data makes clear that the largest accounts on one of crypto’s most watched derivatives venues have chosen a side. Their positioning has not been this bearish in more than a year.
