Institutional interest in major cryptocurrencies experienced a notable shift as spot exchange-traded funds tracking Bitcoin and Ethereum recorded a perfect week of net inflows.
Spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted nearly $2 billion in fresh funds over five business days. The week began with $300 million in net inflows on Monday and $189.30 million on Tuesday. Momentum accelerated on Wednesday after the US Treasury Department announced it would double the maximum size of liquidity-support buybacks for longer-dated government debt from $2 billion to at least $4 billion per operation.
Following the announcement, spot Bitcoin ETF net inflows rose to $517 million on Wednesday and exceeded $606 million on Thursday, marking the best single-day performance since May 1. An additional $307.45 million entered the funds on Friday, bringing the weekly total to $1.92 billion and pushing total inflows from under $51.8 billion to over $53.7 billion. This performance marked the strongest week for net inflows since the week ending October 10.
The influx of capital coincided with a price revival for Bitcoin, which traded below $65,000 prior to the Treasury Department's announcement before rising to nearly $80,000 by Friday.
Spot Ethereum ETFs mirrored this upward trend, capturing nearly $700 million in net inflows over the same period—their highest level since October 2025. Following the Wednesday announcement, daily inflows rose from $30.85 million on Monday and $71.47 million on Tuesday to $189.15 million on Wednesday, $220.77 million on Thursday, and $185 million on Friday.
Cumulative total net inflows for Ethereum funds rose from $11.45 billion to $12.15 billion by August 21. Ethereum's price also increased, surging from $1,900 on Wednesday to over $2,500 by Saturday morning, contributing to weekly gains of over 28%.
