Tron founder Justin Sun challenged valuations of his wealth by Bloomberg and Forbes on September 1, arguing the financial outlets undercount his cryptocurrency assets when calculating his net worth.
In posts on X, Sun stated that Bloomberg and Forbes value his crypto holdings at only 20% to 30% of their actual value, citing concentration, volatility, and uncertainty as their reasoning. Forbes currently estimates Sun's net worth at $8.5 billion. Sun said he understands the outlets' methodology but disagreed with the approach, noting he has deliberately kept the bulk of his assets in cryptocurrency for 14 years.
The wealth dispute emerged days after Sun's separation from Chinese actress Jing Tian became public. According to an account Sun posted on August 27, the couple had moved toward marriage, and he transferred a 30 million yuan bride price—approximately $4.5 million—to Jing's parents after proposing in January. Sun alleged that before Jing underwent egg retrieval for a planned surrogacy, she demanded an additional $50 million. Sun said he refused and ended the relationship. He is reportedly suing Jing Tian and her parents to recover the bride price.
Jing Tian, a 38-year-old actress with more than 26 million Weibo followers, rejected Sun's account on August 28, stating she has not and will never sell her love. She said she still believed in the law and would let time settle the matter.
The dispute drew significant attention on Chinese social media, with related hashtags trending on Weibo. Some users criticized Sun for disclosing medical, financial, and personal details publicly.
Sun also faces other legal matters. World Liberty Financial, the Trump family's DeFi project, filed a defamation countersuit against Sun in May, alleging he was involved in a coordinated smear campaign and short-selling after he sued the company for freezing his tokens. Sun characterized the suit as a "meritless PR stunt." Additionally, Sun remains in a years-long dispute with Hong Kong custodian First Digital Trust over TrueUSD reserves.
