MSTR Stock Climbs 3% in Premarket After SEC Announces Tokenized Stock Trading Exemption

Shares of Strategy (MSTR) climbed more than 3% during Friday's premarket trading, reaching $136.60, as regulatory developments bolstered sentiment across cryptocurrency-focused equities.

The advance followed the Securities and Exchange Commission's announcement of a five-year exemption related to tokenized stock trading. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission also released a no-action stance for certain passive software providers working with regulated entities. These regulatory steps improved market confidence in cryptocurrency firms.

Bitcoin gained 2.3% to $78,112 over the previous 24-hour period. The cryptocurrency has advanced approximately 1.3% since Monday's opening, though it remains roughly 38% below its all-time peak from October.

Mixed Signals From Broader Crypto Policy

The upward movement occurred despite setbacks for cryptocurrency regulation this week. The Clarity Act, significant crypto legislation, was defeated in the Senate on Tuesday. The Federal Reserve also raised interest rates for the first time in over three years on Wednesday.

Neither development generated the negative market reaction some observers anticipated. The Senate's rejection of the Clarity Act was widely expected, and declining oil prices may limit expectations for additional Federal Reserve tightening, having already been priced into markets.

Following the Clarity Act's defeat, both the SEC and CFTC affirmed their independent commitment to developing crypto regulations without new legislation, helping stabilize market confidence.

Broader Sector Performance

Other cryptocurrency-related stocks also gained ground. Coinbase advanced 3.1% in premarket trading, while Robinhood rose 3.5%.

Technical Position

MSTR is positioned approximately 5.2% above its 20-day simple moving average and 24.3% above its 50-day SMA. The stock trades at $136.60, marginally below its 200-day SMA resistance level of $137.13. Technical momentum indicators show mixed signals, with the MACD indicator below its signal line and the 50-day SMA trading beneath the 200-day SMA. Analysts maintain a Buy consensus with an average price target of $232.82.
