Optimism [OP] rose more than 17% over the past 24 hours, making it the third-largest gainer of the day with a market cap trading above $260 million.
Drivers of the Rally
Several factors contributed to the price movement. Uniswap's Unichain migration to OP Enterprise marked a significant fundamental development for the network. The ecosystem saw multiple launches and milestones, including USDT and USDC deposit capabilities going live on AAVE's mobile app and Sonium's announcement of a tokenized IP platform.
Network activity spiked notably, with transaction count rising 20% from 1 million to 1.20 million transactions. The weekly transaction sum reached 8.1 million, averaging around 1 million per day.
A major catalyst came when the Binance hacker moved 44.23 million OP tokens, valued at $5.37 million, from a black-hat address to a newly created wallet. In response, Binance began repurchasing the stolen assets through on-exchange and over-the-counter channels, prompting spot traders to buy OP tokens and close short positions. Futures positions on Binance showed minimal change, with Open Interest rising just 3%.
Price Structure and Resistance Levels
At the time of writing, Optimism broke above a slanting trendline and horizontal resistance at $0.11. However, the altcoin faced difficulty maintaining levels above this zone as it retested the resistance.
Technical indicators showed mixed signals. The Bull Bear Power turned green but experienced a reduction in buyer momentum. The Money Flow Index stood at 54.97, near neutral levels.
On the 4-hour chart, Optimism's structure turned bullish following the breakout. Sustaining the rally above $0.11 was identified as critical for the altcoin's continued gains. A potential move to $0.16 would depend on holding above this support level, though traders noted a hurdle at $0.135. A break below $0.11 could see the price test $0.10 or the low of $0.0943.
