Papertrade Synthetic Exchange Shows $10.3 Million in Staker Rewards After Launch

Papertrade, a synthetic perpetuals exchange built on HyperEVM, opened for trading on October 10, 2026. Shortly after launch, the platform displayed approximately $10.3 million in rewards owed to stakers of its native token, PAPER.

The reward figure reflects trader losses, which fund staker payouts. A substantial reward pool indicates significant early trading losses across the platform.

How the Protocol Works

Papertrade operates with a single shared liquidity pool denominated in USDC that starts empty and fills as traders realize losses. New PAPER tokens are minted exclusively from trading losses, meaning losses are the mechanism through which new token supply enters circulation.

At the starting mint rate, the protocol issues 100 PAPER for every $1 of losses while the liquidity pool remains below $2 million. This structure incentivizes early participation, as traders realize larger token amounts per dollar lost during the initial phase.

PAPER token holders can stake their holdings to earn a share of protocol revenue, which includes 1% of trader profit and loss activity, plus 100% of the pool's gains above a $5 million threshold.

Launch Activity and Trading Volume

Before trading opened, 11,473 addresses pre-deposited a combined $137 million. Within minutes of launch, notional trading volume reached $14.4 billion, with Bitcoin open interest hitting $3 billion.

The exchange offers up to 1,000x leverage on Bitcoin and Ethereum trades. The platform operates without an order book and reports traders face no slippage or funding rates.

Individual trades are capped at a $10 million atomic position size to limit the impact of single orders on the liquidity pool. Early data showed 94% of PAPER supply staked, with rewards distributed in real time.

Token Distribution Model

Papertrade was co-founded by two anonymous traders operating under the names Jez and Blurr. The project employed a fair-launch structure with no pre-mine and no airdrop. Neither the founding team nor venture capital investors received PAPER allocations.

The sole mechanism to acquire PAPER is through trading losses on the platform.
