Pi Network has released three new developer capabilities aimed at making its ecosystem more attractive to application builders. The Core Team also overhauled its developer documentation as part of a broader effort to enhance utility beyond basic cryptocurrency transactions.
The Three New Features
The first capability enables selected whitelisted Pi Browser apps to store data directly on users' devices rather than requiring developers to maintain separate backend infrastructure. This approach allows preferences, session data, and other information to be stored locally, potentially reducing infrastructure costs while providing consistent experiences across Android and iOS platforms. Data remains on the user's device and is not uploaded to Pi Network's servers, though the feature currently operates under several limitations including restricted app access and storage capacity constraints.
The second release, called the Staking Data API, permits eligible developers to access information about how much effective Pi a user has staked specifically for their application through Ecosystem Directory Staking. Developers can use this data to build application-specific features tailored to their most committed users.
The third feature, Pi.shareFile, allows applications to integrate with a phone's native sharing functionality for files, images, and videos. Use cases include marketplace customers sharing receipts and photos, as well as gaming and content apps enabling users to share clips directly.
Developer Resource Consolidation
In addition to the three new features, Pi Network consolidated previously fragmented developer resources into a single documentation platform. The unified resource covers app registration, sandbox development, authentication, Pi payments, Mainnet preparation, and launch procedures. The documentation now includes AI-assisted guidance for integrating authentication and payments, designed to reduce friction in building applications for the network.
