Luxury carmaker Porsche is winding down its Web3 project, officially ending support for the Porsche NFT collection and the PIONΞERS CIRCLE holder club. While the brand is stepping away from the community after nearly four years, the digital tokens themselves will survive.
In a farewell post on social media, the project outlined three primary changes. First, every Porsche NFT will remain with its current owner on the blockchain. Second, the PIONΞERS Discord server is transitioning into a read-only archive where members can browse past chats, and third, the project's official X account will stop publishing new posts. Porsche described the exit as a strategic shift, noting the company will continue adapting to new opportunities independently.
The initiative experienced challenges from its inception. Launched on Ethereum in January 2023, the collection originally planned for 7,500 tokens priced at 0.911 ETH each, which was approximately $1,400 at the time. Due to falling demand, buyers minted only 1,909 tokens before the automaker halted the sale early.
Despite the slow start, Porsche maintained the project for years, offering Discord sessions, events, and racetrack experiences for holders. The company did not cite a specific reason for concluding the project.
Porsche's departure aligns with broader industry trends involving NFT and crypto closures. The move mirrors Nike's closure of its RTFKT digital sneaker studio in January 2025, as well as Gemini's closure of the Nifty Gateway marketplace. Data shows that over 20 crypto projects shut down in the first quarter of 2026 amid tightened funding and cooled trading volumes.
