Bitcoin reached an intraday high of $81,377 on September 18, placing it within striking distance of $84,000. Prediction markets reveal a stark contrast in trader sentiment at different price levels, with near-term targets commanding far more confidence than longer-term ones.
High Confidence at $84,000, Fading Above
On Myriad Markets, traders give bitcoin an 84% probability of reaching $84,000 before falling to $55,000. The contract, which uses the Binance BTC/USDT spot market, has attracted $242,000 in volume. From the $81,377 level, reaching $84,000 requires only about $2,600 in additional gains, while the downside target of $55,000 would require a decline of more than $26,000.
Polymarket data demonstrates how quickly trader conviction weakens with higher targets. The platform prices bitcoin at an 80% probability of reaching $85,000 before year-end, but that drops to 59% at $90,000 and falls to just 25% at $100,000.
$100,000 and Beyond: Trader Skepticism Grows
Bitcoin would need to gain roughly 23% from its September 18 high to reach $100,000, yet prediction markets price this milestone at only 25% probability before year-end on both Polymarket and Kalshi. Polymarket's $100,000 contract has generated significant discussion, but traders show increasing skepticism as the calendar matters. The same contract gives $100,000 a 43% probability by March 31, 2027, rising to 74% by year-end 2027.
Higher targets face even steeper odds. Polymarket prices $150,000 at just 2% probability by December 31, though the odds gradually improve with longer timeframes to 8% by March 31, 2027 and 26% by the end of 2027. Kalshi similarly prices bitcoin at 4% probability of reaching $150,000 before January 2027, with nearly $36.5 million in total volume.
Downside Risks Also Priced In
Downside targets show persistent trader concern. Polymarket gives bitcoin a 48% probability of touching $70,000 before year-end, with $65,000 at 29% odds and $60,000 at 19%. A Kalshi contract framing the choice between $50,000 or $100,000 coming first shows traders pricing the $50,000 outcome at 12.8%, with $1.2 million traded.
Year-End Scenarios Show Modest Movement
Among Kalshi's year-end price brackets, the 80,000-to-84,999.99 range carries 13.2% probability, while 75,000-to-79,999.99 stands at 14.4% and 70,000-to-74,999.99 at 12%. This suggests traders see a meaningful possibility that bitcoin spends the next three months trading volatilely before finishing near its September 18 levels.
