Ripple has expanded its XRPL developer kit to support Stripe and Tempo's Machine Payments Protocol, a feature designed to allow AI agents to pay for data, computing, and other services. The update also includes support for the Open Wallet Standard, enabling wallets to operate across multiple blockchain networks.
The integration builds on XRPL's existing support for x402, adding infrastructure that facilitates automated payments and interactions between AI agents and blockchain networks. By integrating XRP and RLUSD with Stripe and Tempo's payment infrastructure, Ripple appears positioned to capture emerging demand in the AI-agent economy.
Strong On-Chain Demand Supports AI Integration
XRPL's decentralized exchange volume has averaged over $400 million across the first three quarters of the year, keeping the network among the top 25 by DEX volume. This existing on-chain activity provides a foundation for the new AI-focused features.
Recent data shows XRPL has recorded more than 1.2 million AI-related transactions, indicating that AI activity is already gaining traction on the network.
Institutional Interest and Market Positioning
Institutional positioning around XRP has also strengthened. Franklin Templeton's XRP ETF recently recorded client purchases of $3.5 million worth of XRP. Additionally, Russia's Moscow Exchange is set to offer perpetual futures on an XRP index, providing traders with additional exposure options.
The timing of Ripple's AI integration comes as the network seeks to demonstrate compelling use cases and bolster investor confidence in the platform.
