Robinhood Chain, BNB, and Solana Lead Tokenized Stock Trading Surge

Robinhood Chain, BNB Chain, and Solana led tokenized stock trading activity last week, according to a Grayscale research note published Thursday. Weekly spot volume for tokenized equities peaked near $3 billion in early August.

Tokenized stocks are blockchain tokens that track listed share prices without granting buyers ownership of the underlying shares. While trading these assets has become straightforward, utilizing them for other on-chain purposes remains limited.

Approximately 5% of the tokenized equity market participates in on-chain finance activities after trades settle, Grayscale research head Zach Pandl noted. He attributed this low engagement to investor preferences for round-the-clock trading and global access rather than broader blockchain utility.

Value locked in tokenized stocks surpassed $110 million in late August, according to Grayscale data citing on-chain information from Allium. This figure stands far below the billions in weekly trading volume.

Lending protocols on Solana show early signs of growth. Holdings within Kamino and Jupiter, two Solana lending platforms, have expanded roughly tenfold over the past year.

Robinhood Chain, launched on Arbitrum earlier this year, leads tokenized stock platforms by holder count. However, meme coins rather than equities drive most traffic on the network.

Regulation as Next Catalyst

U.S. regulators have discussed an innovation exemption that would permit tokenized securities to trade under specific safeguards, including verified participants and compliance-ready token standards.

Securities and Exchange Commission officials have separately highlighted how tokenization could simplify share pledging as collateral. An SEC advisory committee has also endorsed settling stock purchases and payments in a single transaction, which would eliminate settlement risk.

Broader institutional adoption depends on enabling collateral use of tokenized stocks, which would require institutional market participants to move positions onto blockchains. Volume alone will not achieve this outcome; regulatory rulemaking will determine whether tokenized stocks transition into collateral-eligible assets.
