Robinhood Chain: Ethereum Layer-2 Network for Tokenized Assets and DeFi

Robinhood Chain is an Ethereum layer-2 blockchain developed by financial services company Robinhood. Launched on mainnet on July 1, 2026, the network processes transactions separately from Ethereum's main network before sending data back for settlement, reducing fees and increasing transaction capacity.

The network uses ETH as its native gas token and operates on the Arbitrum Dedicated Blockchains framework, a customizable layer-2 system created by Offchain Labs. A sequencer orders transactions on a first-come, first-served basis, and batches are posted back to Ethereum for final settlement.

Tokenized Assets and Applications

Robinhood Chain enables developers to build applications involving tokenized real-world assets, including stocks and exchange-traded funds. Stock Tokens are blockchain-based assets issued by Robinhood that provide exposure to underlying assets without conveying legal ownership rights or shareholder voting rights. The tokens are not available to U.S. users and are not registered under U.S. securities laws.

The network supports multiple DeFi applications, including Uniswap as the default decentralized exchange, Morpho lending protocol, and Lighter for perpetual futures. Chainlink provides price feeds for market data. Pons, a meme coin launchpad that launched within days of mainnet, has driven substantial network activity.

Network Activity and Growth

In its first week, Robinhood Chain recorded more than 17 million transactions, nearly 350,000 addresses, and more than $1 billion in decentralized exchange volume. By September 4, the network recorded $1.878 billion in 24-hour DEX volume, with DeFi deposits at $834.5 million and stablecoin market capitalization at $921.54 million.

Meme coins have driven early adoption, with Cash Cat and PONS becoming the network's largest cryptocurrencies by market cap. Tokenized asset activity has grown alongside speculative tokens, with active real-world asset market capitalization reaching $219.49 million by September 4.

Robinhood Chain became a substantial fee generator, collecting $3.13 million in chain revenue over 30 days ending August 31—ranking third among all blockchains. By September 4, the network was collecting more than $4 million in chain revenue daily.

Subsidies and Future Outlook

Robinhood covered gas costs for qualifying swaps made through Robinhood Wallet since launch, under an offer expiring September 29, 2026. This subsidy will end the first test of whether activity holds once traders pay their own network fees. Robinhood's third-quarter results, due in late October, will be the first to cover a full quarter of mainnet operation.
