Robinhood Chain experienced a network outage on Friday that halted block production for at least 14 minutes, leaving transactions stalled during the disruption. The network normally settles a block every tenth of a second, meaning the 14-minute halt accounts for approximately 8,400 unproduced blocks.
During the outage, pending transactions read zero across a half-hour window preceding the stall. The chain's tip remained several minutes old while the network ceased accepting new transactions. Robinhood has not disclosed the cause of the outage or provided an estimated recovery time.
Network Activity Before the Outage
The disruption occurred during heavy network traffic. Block explorer data showed 14.14 million transactions in the 24 hours preceding the stall, with an average transaction fee of $0.48.
Centralized Sequencer Architecture
Robinhood Chain launched its mainnet on July 1, built on Arbitrum's Nitro software. The chain operates with a single sequencer that orders all transactions, meaning there is no fallback operator when the primary sequencer stops.
L2BEAT, which grades Layer 2 decentralization, ranks Robinhood Chain below Stage 0, its lowest tier, citing the single sequencer design and instant contract upgrades as key concerns. Only two whitelisted actors can dispute invalid states on the network.
L2BEAT values assets on the chain at $2.46 billion. Earlier this week, Robinhood Chain set a decentralized exchange record with daily DEX volume topping $1.06 billion, driven primarily by meme coins.
Robinhood Markets runs no public status page for the chain, leaving block explorers as the only available window into the network's operational status.
