Michael Saylor, founder of MicroStrategy, delivered a sweeping presentation on bitcoin's role in a potential new financial infrastructure at ParaFi Investor Day 2026, alongside ParaFi Capital partner Jeff Park. Saylor argued that bank lending, tokenized securities, and bitcoin-backed credit could eventually support a $100 trillion financial system.
Central to Saylor's thesis is bitcoin's fixed supply and the role of artificial intelligence in making traditional business models vulnerable. "Bitcoin is a scarce desirable piece of property in cyberspace," Saylor told attendees. "So the robots can't make more bitcoin." He emphasized that investors seeking assets immune to automation should consider scarce commodities.
Credit Expansion as a Catalyst
Saylor identified expanding bank credit against bitcoin holdings as a major driver of adoption. He noted that institutional custody services could help establish lending networks over the next 12 to 24 months. "Every $10 billion of credit is one year supply," he said, adding that creating billions in credit against a multi-trillion-dollar asset class would be "enormously bullish."
MicroStrategy currently holds 848,250 BTC, acquired at an average price of $75,444 per coin, valued at approximately $69.45 billion. Saylor described the company's structure as self-reinforcing: raising capital, purchasing bitcoin, and using appreciating reserves to support additional financing. He stated that MicroStrategy controls approximately 4% of bitcoin's eventual supply and raised $21 billion during the year.
Bitcoin-Backed Financial Instruments
Saylor outlined ambitions for STRC, MicroStrategy's bitcoin-backed preferred stock, which currently pays 12% dividends. He expressed a goal of moving to daily dividend payments to accommodate tokenized financial markets operating around the clock. The company has structured approximately 48 years of dividends into the security's capital base.
Saylor also discussed a vision for bitcoin-backed dollar instruments offering attractive yields, though he characterized such products as aspirational rather than currently established.
Institutional Adoption and Market Acceptance
When pressed by Park on institutional adoption challenges, Saylor acknowledged that traditional investors require evidence that these instruments withstand difficult market conditions. "We have to prove we can manage through bear markets," he conceded. He drew a parallel to bitcoin's 17-year history, noting that widespread institutional acceptance has taken considerable time.
Shortly after his ParaFi presentation, Saylor posted on social media stating "We found room for more orange," accompanied by an updated chart of MicroStrategy's bitcoin acquisitions. The post followed his customary Sunday pattern of signaling potential treasury expansions ahead of Monday announcements, though no new purchase has been confirmed.
