Michael Saylor, Executive Chairman of MicroStrategy Inc., signaled a potential expansion of the company's bitcoin treasury on November 1 through a chart posted on X showing the company's acquisition history. The graphic displayed 848,517 BTC holdings valued at approximately $66 billion across 119 purchase events with an average acquisition cost of $75,446 per coin.
Saylor's statement that the company found "room for even more orange"—referring to the orange circles marking purchases on the chart—follows a similar buying signal on October 11, when a chart showed 848,000 BTC. MicroStrategy disclosed a purchase of 250 BTC for approximately $21.5 million the following day, establishing a precedent for interpreting such messages as acquisition signals.
Bull Market Assessment
The buying hint accompanied Saylor's bullish outlook shared in MicroStrategy's October 29 earnings announcement, where he stated bitcoin was at the "beginning of the next bitcoin bull market." He cited growing acceptance among banks, renewed institutional demand, and bitcoin's increasing dominance among digital assets, noting at that time bitcoin's price stood 21% above its 200-week moving average.
Financial Performance and Holdings
MicroStrategy reported record quarterly operating income of $20.91 billion, with digital asset gains accounting for the entire amount. The company's bitcoin holdings increased 26% year to date, with purchases totaling $14.33 billion through October 25. However, BTC Yield, which measures changes in bitcoin per assumed diluted share, was negative 3.7%, indicating that growth in the coin balance lagged expansion of the company's share count.
During October 19-25, MicroStrategy did not buy or sell bitcoin, instead using available capital for $204.9 million in share repurchases. As of October 25, the company held approximately 4.04% of bitcoin's maximum supply of 21 million coins.
