Strategy and Strive increase Bitcoin holdings amid market volatility

MicroStrategy (MSTR) purchased an additional 811 bitcoin between October 26 and November 1, spending about $65.5 million at an average price of $80,846 per coin, according to the company’s recent 8‑K filing. The acquisition raises the firm’s total bitcoin holdings to 849,327 BTC, acquired for roughly $64.1 billion at an average cost of $75,451 per coin.

The purchase was funded by the sale of approximately 1.18 million shares of MSTR common stock for about $164 million. After allocating $65.5 million to the bitcoin buy, the remaining $98.5 million was retained as cash. The company also used $208 million to repurchase around 2.1 million shares of its STRC preferred stock.

MicroStrategy’s third‑quarter results, reported earlier in the week, showed net income of $19.5 billion, up from $2.79 billion a year earlier, driven by a $20.9 billion operating gain linked to the rise in bitcoin’s price during the quarter. The gain reflects fair‑value accounting rather than cash flow. The company’s CFO, Andrew Kang, will step down on November 5, with COO Reza Virasteh slated to assume the role in January.

Preferred‑stock dividend change

Shareholders approved a proposal allowing four of MicroStrategy’s preferred stocks (STRF, STRC, STRK, and STRD) to accrue dividends daily, including weekends and holidays. The vote received 99.3 % support. The change aims to improve liquidity and price stability while keeping dividend rates unchanged. Implementation is expected to begin in November 2026 for STRC and January 2027 for the other series.

Strive’s bitcoin purchase

Strive (ASST) added 124 bitcoin between October 24 and 30, paying about $80,526 per coin. The acquisition brings Strive’s total bitcoin balance to 43,124 BTC. The firm’s cash position declined by roughly $14 million to $490 million during the same period, and it continues to hold 505,000 shares of MicroStrategy’s STRC preferred stock.

Market context

On October 29, Binance reported a security breach estimated at $6.3 billion, which analysts linked to North Korea’s TraderTraitor group. Binance froze approximately $3 billion of the stolen funds and intends to cover losses from its SAFU fund and reserves. Bitcoin’s price fell toward $76,000 following the incident, declining about 3.6 % over the week.

MicroStrategy’s stock dropped roughly 9 % last week, closing at $130.51, while Strive’s shares fell about 20 % over the same period. The companies retain significant capital for future bitcoin purchases, with MicroStrategy reporting an available $18.6 billion under its ATM program.
