Strategy Inc., a company known for its Bitcoin treasury approach, has surpassed Google's parent company Alphabet in daily trading volume. The enterprise software vendor turned Bitcoin vehicle reached the 17th position on the list of most-traded US stocks after recording between 47 and 49 million shares changing hands in a single session.

This recent turnover roughly tripled the company's baseline, as its 30-day and three-month averages typically sit between 16 and 21 million shares. The company currently carries a $41 billion market cap and has also moved ahead of JPMorgan Chase in daily share turnover.

Drivers Behind the Trading Surge

The company, formerly known as MicroStrategy, has functioned as a proxy trade for traditional equity market investors seeking Bitcoin exposure. Tom Lee of Fundstrat noted that Strategy and Bitmine together account for roughly 92% of all equity volume tied to cryptocurrency treasury companies.

A key factor in the high volume is the stock's elevated beta of approximately 3.56, indicating that the equity moves roughly 3.5 times as much as the broader market on any given day. Under the leadership of Michael Saylor, Strategy began accumulating Bitcoin in 2020, utilizing access to capital markets to build its reserves and position the stock as a leveraged play on the cryptocurrency.

Market Implications and Risks

While high daily share turnover provides tight spreads and straightforward entry and exit points for institutional investors, the concentration of crypto treasury volume presents challenges for competitors seeking to attract similar investor attention.

At the same time, the elevated beta cuts both ways. When market sentiment reverses, the stock tends to experience sharper declines than the broader market, offering a leveraged exposure to an already volatile asset class.
