Stock perpetual futures on centralized crypto exchanges traded $665.42 billion in August, according to WuBlockchain Data Center. Three underlying assets generated more than half of that volume.
The monthly total increased 4.6% from July's $636.19 billion, continuing a sharp upward trend from January's $11.58 billion.
Semiconductor Stocks Dominate Trading
SanDisk (SNDK) led all assets with $193.58 billion in August volume, followed by SK Hynix (SKHYNIX) at $75.89 billion and the SpaceX-tracking SPCX contract at $65.93 billion. Combined, these three represented 50.4% of total market activity.
SNDK perpetual volume reached 62.4% of the stock's US spot market turnover on August 19, the highest ratio recorded in WuBlockchain's tokenized equities data. The ratio declined to 38.0% by August 26.
Circle (CRCL) ranked second among individual equities at 47.2% perpetual-to-spot volume, while Nvidia (NVDA) and Meta both remained below 3%.
Exchanges Expand Stock Derivatives Offerings
Binance reported approximately $433.4 billion in traditional finance perpetual volume for August, roughly 15 times January's $29.5 billion. Equity-linked contracts accounted for $342.9 billion, or close to 79% of that total.
The exchange is adding options on more than 1,000 US stocks and exchange-traded funds for eligible users outside the United States. Bybit announced plans to launch 24/7 options trading on September 17, using SpaceX and Nvidia perpetuals as underlyings.
Whether the market expands beyond semiconductor-focused assets will determine if future months sustain August's concentrated trading structure.
