X Adds Direct Trading Access for Bitcoin and Stocks Through Partner Platforms

X has launched a new feature allowing U.S. users to trade cryptocurrencies and stocks directly from the social platform's timeline. When users tap a cashtag such as $BTC or $TSLA, they can view real-time price charts and related posts, then select a "Trade" button to access partner trading platforms.

The actual transactions occur through partner exchanges rather than X itself. Available partners include Interactive Brokers, Moomoo, Gemini, Kraken, and Coinbase. Users log in or sign up on these platforms to complete their orders.

Cashtags have existed on X for years as a way to follow financial discussions. Earlier this year, the company upgraded them to display real-time prices and charts. The new trading feature represents the next phase in Musk's broader effort to position X as a finance destination.

"Cashtags close the gap between a ticker on the timeline and the market itself," said Mridul Singhai, X's product engineering lead.

The platform has approximately 132 million daily active mobile users and over 245 million users globally across all devices. X has become a central hub for cryptocurrency discussions, where posts from prominent figures can influence market liquidity across exchanges. This concentrated user engagement distinguishes X from fragmented platforms like Discord and Telegram, where conversations typically occur across separate channels.
