XRP has broken above a falling channel that controlled its price for approximately one year, marking a shift in its technical structure. The cryptocurrency currently trades at $1.5138 and has moved above key support levels, though significant resistance lies ahead.
Channel Breakout and Recent Price Action
XRP's longer-term chart shows a correction that began following an all-time high of $3.66 in early 2025. A descending channel formed in July 2025, containing the asset's rallies and declines through late 2025 and into 2026.
In August 2026, XRP jumped 53% in a single week and broke above the channel's upper trendline, ending more than a year of trading within the falling structure. The price subsequently pulled back through September and retested the former upper trendline from above, holding it as support before recovering. This sequence of breakout, retest, and recovery strengthens the technical case for the move.
Key Technical Levels and Ichimoku Indicator
XRP has moved above two critical Ichimoku lines—the Tenkan-sen (Conversion Line) and Kijun-sen (Base Line)—both positioned at $1.3426. These levels now serve as support after functioning as resistance earlier in the year.
The weekly Ichimoku Cloud presents the main technical hurdle. The cloud remains red above XRP's price, indicating a bearish setup on the weekly timeframe. Senkou Span B, the upper boundary of the cloud, sits at $2.0191. A weekly close above this level would represent a significant change in the Ichimoku structure and shift the long-term trend in XRP's favor.
Momentum Indicators Show Cooling Strength
The Directional Movement Index indicates that buying pressure remains stronger than selling pressure, with the +DI at 28.57 compared to the -DI at 17.15. However, both lines have declined from their August peaks. The ADX, which measures trend strength, stands at 28.46 and is also moving lower, suggesting the strong August move has lost momentum as the market enters a consolidation phase.
The bullish trend is cooling rather than reversing. If the ADX stabilizes and rises while the +DI maintains its lead over the -DI, XRP could experience a return of stronger momentum.
Support and Resistance Levels
The $1.3426 area serves as XRP's primary support zone, reinforced by both Ichimoku lines and the broken upper boundary of the former falling channel. A sustained drop below this level would weaken the breakout's technical case. On the upside, the weekly Ichimoku Cloud and its upper boundary at $2.0191 represent the next major resistance levels to overcome.
