On-chain data shows XRP exchange reserves have climbed to approximately 11.81 billion XRP, a level that sits at the 99th percentile of the trailing 365 days. The accumulation coincides with a significant reduction in leveraged derivatives positioning and raises questions about near-term price direction.
Binance open interest declined roughly 15.8% from earlier in the month, while long liquidations spiked during the same period. The surge in exchange reserves and the unwinding of leverage occurred concurrently, according to on-chain analysis flagged on October 18.
Supply Buildup Amid Positioning Reset
Exchange supply has been building across multiple timeframes. Large-wallet deposits to Binance reached a six-month high of 1.6 billion XRP in recent weeks, indicating that as derivatives traders were liquidated, coins moved to exchanges remained there rather than being withdrawn.
XRP has traded in the $1.28–$1.35 range, with prices softening after macroeconomic pressures, including inflation data exceeding forecasts in September.
Potential Offsetting Demand Factors
Rising exchange reserves do not automatically signal a sell-off. Several structural demand factors may provide support.
- Evernorth, a Nasdaq-listed XRP treasury company managing 473 million XRP, began deploying institutional strategies in Q4 2026 alongside Ripple, Kraken, Coinbase, and BitGo, designed to absorb exchange supply rather than add to it.
- Doppler's XRP Vault has crossed $125 million in total value locked, drawing coins into productive use and away from exchanges.
- Spot XRP ETFs have recorded cumulative net inflows of approximately $1.8 billion, though daily flow momentum has moderated recently.
- Ripple's approval of the Sponsored Fees and Reserves amendment signals continued ecosystem development on the XRP Ledger.
Elevated exchange reserves at extreme percentile levels increase the probability of volatility if coins enter order books. The direction of net flows over the coming week will be a key indicator of near-term risk conditions.
