XRP investors are bracing for a potentially volatile period as the US Senate is scheduled to hold a cloture vote on the motion to proceed with the CLARITY Act, or Digital Asset Market Clarity Act. The vote will determine whether senators advance debate on the legislation, which requires 60 votes to proceed.
Why the CLARITY Act Matters for XRP
The bill aims to create a comprehensive federal crypto market structure, establishing clearer responsibilities for the SEC and CFTC, and setting rules for exchanges, brokers, dealers, and digital commodities. This is particularly relevant for XRP following Ripple's years-long regulatory battle with the SEC, which concluded with the regulator identifying XRP as a digital commodity.
If passed, the legislation would codify this regulatory framework into federal law, making it more durable across different administrations. However, a failure of the cloture vote would not erase the regulatory progress XRP has experienced over the past year and a half.
Potential Price Scenarios
XRP is currently trading near $1.40, above a key support level at $1.34-$1.35. If the cloture vote fails but the broader crypto market remains stable, analysts anticipate an initial reaction of 7% to 10%, which could drive the token to $1.20-$1.25.
A more aggressive selloff could push XRP toward $1.10, particularly if markets interpret a failed vote as evidence that comprehensive US crypto legislation could face significant delays.
The stakes could be amplified by the timing of the Federal Reserve's September 15-16 FOMC meeting. If a failed CLARITY Act vote coincides with a hawkish Fed decision, the combined effect could trigger a broader crypto market selloff, potentially driving XRP toward $1.00.
