XRP Ledger Batch V1.1, a payments upgrade for linked transactions, is moving toward activation with conditional approval from validators. The feature groups up to eight XRP Ledger transactions in a single operation with an all-or-nothing settlement mechanism, where every transaction completes or the entire group cancels.
The XRPL Dashboard shows support from 30 of 35 tracked validators. The amendment required 28 votes to begin its countdown, which started September 15 at 14:06:41 UTC. Activation could follow September 29 if support maintains at least 80% through the fourteen-day period. Validators can change their positions during the countdown, and if support drops below 80%, the clock stops until the threshold is regained.
Key Use Cases for Atomic Settlement
The upgrade supports delivery-versus-payment workflows, where asset transfers and payments settle together, reducing exposure to incomplete settlement during trades. Asset managers can transfer tokenized assets while receiving payment within the same ledger operation.
The feature also enables exchanges, wallets, and marketplaces to attach service charges to customer transactions, processing both the payment and fee as a single grouped operation. Unlike multi-step workflows, the grouped operation prevents partial settlement when one transaction fails, simplifying reconciliation for funds, trading venues, and token issuers.
Security Review and Previous Withdrawal
XRP Ledger Batch V1.1 represents a redesign following the withdrawal of Batch V1.0. Researchers discovered a critical signature-validation flaw in February in the original version that could stop checking signatures early under certain conditions, potentially allowing unauthorized transactions from other accounts. Validators had not activated the original amendment, so no user funds were directly exposed.
RippleX redesigned the signing and authorization model in response. The replacement shipped in xrpld version 3.3.0 on August 6. The current version underwent internal adversarial testing, AI-assisted analysis, and a Sherlock attack contest. Security firms Halborn and Common Prefix conducted independent assessments before the amendment returned to the validator vote.
RippleX stated that commercial projects are already preparing for the upgrade. Ripple said more details about partner projects will follow after partners formally finalize plans and launch timing.
