Zcash (ZEC) has surged close to $1,600 over the past 24 hours, currently trading around $1,535. The rally has attracted significant capital inflows and drawn attention from major market participants monitoring the token's momentum.
ZEC has remained in overbought territory for nearly 30 days, with the Relative Strength Index (RSI) moving above 70 after briefly cooling in mid-September. The sustained strength suggests overwhelming demand throughout August and September, though it also leaves the market increasingly vulnerable if demand reverses.
Large Holder Positions Signal Market Concentration
The rally has concentrated significant wealth in large holders. According to LookOnChain data, the largest ZEC short holder currently holds 202,078 tokens worth approximately $312.8 million. This holder withdrew the tokens from Binance nine months ago when ZEC traded near $437, representing approximately $224.5 million in unrealized spot profit.
Technical Conditions Raise Caution
Multiple technical indicators are showing signs of strain. RSI remains above 70, while Chaikin Money Flow sits around 0.22, reflecting strong capital inflows. The Awesome Oscillator histogram also shows stretched conditions. After nearly a month of overbought price action, the margin for continued straight-line appreciation is narrowing.
Competing Scenarios
The technical setup presents two diverging paths. If bullish pressure continues, traders could push ZEC into price discovery, with $1,750 and $2,000 standing out as potential next round-number levels. Conversely, if selling pressure intensifies, the token could face sharp declines toward support levels at $1,255, $1,055, $890, and $740.
