Aerodrome [AERO] declined more than 10% over a 24-hour period as the broader cryptocurrency market fell 1.45%. The decline follows an uptrend that began on September 2nd.
Market pressures and liquidity drain
The price drop appears to reflect several converging factors. Market-wide profit-taking in cryptocurrency after a week of rallies spilled into AERO, with decentralized exchange volumes exceeding $600 million when AERO traded near $0.68. Over the past three days, DEX volumes remained above $500 million despite the price decline.
Base Chain experienced capital flight from other tokens, including the memecoin Hunter Biden's Laptop [LAPTOP], which launched at $200 per token but crashed to $0.826. High selling pressure from such tokens drained liquidity from the chain, affecting Aerodrome as the primary liquidity engine for Coinbase's Base Chain.
Technical structure and support levels
Technical analysis suggests AERO entered a correction phase after its week-long uptrend. The token was trading above its previous higher high at $0.55, which now functions as a support level. Capital flow indicators showed mixed signals, with the Chaikin Money Flow bouncing from neutral at 0.05 and the Chandelier Exit indicator displaying a bullish crossover.
If support at $0.55 holds, analysts suggested AERO could rebound toward $0.68, representing approximately 22% gains. A breakdown below $0.55 could lead to tests of lower support levels at $0.52, $0.50, $0.48, or $0.45.
Buyback initiative
Aerodrome PGF announced a buyback program that acquired and locked 171K AERO tokens, valued at approximately $100,000. The buyback represents a market-aware response to selling pressure, though analysts noted the volume remains minimal relative to broader cryptocurrency market selling activity.
