Bitcoin derivatives markets have swelled to nearly $100 billion in combined exposure, with futures holding $56.3 billion in open interest and options at approximately $42 billion as bitcoin trades near $81,273.
The positioning reveals a pronounced bullish tilt in the options market. Call options control 60.74% of bitcoin options open interest, representing 311,306.86 BTC, while put options account for 39.26%, totaling 201,232.2 BTC. The 24-hour volume shows calls at 59.01% versus puts at 40.99%, maintaining the call-heavy lean.

Bybit and Gate each carry approximately $5.36 billion, while MEXC holds $4.78 billion, Hyperliquid $3.47 billion, and OKX $3.12 billion.

Options Concentration
The largest options positions cluster around September strikes between $70,000 and $100,000. Max Pain Below Spot Price
Max pain levels for the September 25 expiration sit notably below bitcoin's current price across major venues. Deribit shows max pain near $72,000, Binance around $76,000, and OKX near $75,000. With bitcoin at approximately $81,273, all three readings are roughly $5,000 to $9,000 below the current level.
Max pain represents the strike where the greatest notional value of outstanding options would expire worthless at expiration. While it serves as a positioning metric rather than a price prediction, traders monitor it for insights into potential dynamics as settlement approaches.
Bitcoin has traded between $75,038 and $81,710 during the week, with substantial call exposure stacked at $82,000, $85,000, $90,000, and $100,000 strikes ahead of the September 25 expiration.
