Bitcoin Eyes $74K Following Surge Above $72K as Analysts Highlight Key Support

Bitcoin surged past $70,000 and climbed above $72,000 following a fast recovery on August 20. The upward movement was accompanied by heavy forced selling, resulting in over $1.2 billion in leveraged positions liquidated within an hour, of which $1.14 billion consisted of short positions.

According to trader Sykodelic, a weekly close above $67,000 could signal a bottoming out for Bitcoin, potentially clearing a path toward $74,000. He noted that $60,000 served as a strong low, while $69,000 represents both Bitcoin's previous 2021 all-time high and the current cost basis for short-term holders. Sykodelic also pointed out that Bitcoin closed its first daily candle above the 200-day simple moving average since November 2025, though he emphasized the need for a confirming weekly close.

Another trader, Nik, identified the $65,000 to $67,000 range as an important support zone and noted a lack of clear resistance until $74,000, with subsequent major walls positioned around $80,000 to $83,000. However, traders remain cautious about potential volatility and the possibility of further market fluctuations before reaching higher price levels.

At the time of reporting, Bitcoin was up over 11% in a 24-hour period, marking gains of more than 12% over seven days and 10% over two weeks. Despite these short-term gains, the asset remains down nearly 37% over a one-year period and sits 43% below its all-time high.

The broader cryptocurrency market expanded alongside Bitcoin, adding over $200 billion in 24 hours. Ethereum briefly moved past $2,300, and several other major tokens also posted gains, including HYPE, which rose approximately 25% to $74.
