Bitcoin has stabilized around $86,000 following a brief pullback from an eight-month high of $87,374, maintaining the broader cryptocurrency market above $3 trillion in total capitalization. The cryptocurrency's market cap remains at $1.73 trillion.
Total open interest across the crypto derivatives market surpassed $159 billion, reflecting strong underlying momentum despite the recent price consolidation. Bitcoin's liquidation activity declined markedly, with short liquidations totaling approximately $171 million in the most recent 24-hour period, compared to $454 million 24 hours prior. Overall bitcoin liquidations over the past day dropped to $168 million from more than $500 million recorded on Monday.
The cryptocurrency reached its eight-month peak of $87,374 on Monday before beginning a gradual decline that erased most mid-morning gains. By 1:35 a.m. EST, the price had fallen to $85,098 before a relief rally lifted it back above $86,000 approximately nine hours later. Bitcoin maintained a double-digit weekly gain and year-to-date losses of just over 2 percent.
The price action comes as the Commodity Futures Trading Commission submitted proposed cryptocurrency market rules to the White House, reigniting market optimism after the U.S. Senate stalled the CLARITY Act. The developments reflected a shift in market sentiment, as bitcoin has surged from $77,000 to $80,000 since September 18 despite the legislative setback.
Bitcoin's resilience extended through weekend geopolitical tensions, as buying pressure pushed the cryptocurrency back above $81,000. The bitcoin-to-gold ratio jumped 7.55 percent on a weekly basis to reach 19.94, reflecting bitcoin's rapid gains relative to physical gold.
