Bitcoin is currently trading around $84,000, near its highest level since January 2026. Analysts are now focused on a single technical level to determine whether the cryptocurrency will sustain its gains or experience another reversal.
According to crypto analyst Benjamin Cowen, Bitcoin's weekly close will be decisive. A close above $82,500—around the May 2026 high—could confirm a genuine breakout into a new bull market. A drop below that level could turn the recent rally into a brief spike that quickly reverses, known as a wick.
Macro Headwinds Add Complexity
The potential breakout faces headwinds from broader market conditions. The 10-year Treasury yield reached 5% on Wednesday, its highest level in 19 years. September's flash PMI data also came in stronger than expected. Higher yields typically make risk assets like Bitcoin less attractive to investors.
Cowen emphasized the uncertainty, noting that weekly closes provide a stronger signal than intraday price movements, which can be volatile and misleading.
Analyst Caution on Predictions
Cowen recently acknowledged that his earlier prediction of an October cycle bottom no longer aligned with market behavior, reflecting the difficulty of forecasting Bitcoin's movements with certainty.
Trader Michaël van de Poppe offered a similar perspective, suggesting the recent correction may have already concluded, though another dip toward $81,000 remains possible. Van de Poppe viewed lower prices as a potential optimal entry point rather than a bearish signal.
This week's weekly close will likely provide traders with the clearest indication of whether Bitcoin has broken out of its previous range or remains trapped in uncertain territory.
