Bitcoin Stabilizes Above $76,000, but ETF Outflows Signal Wall Street Caution

Bitcoin stabilized above $76,000 on Saturday morning, trading at around $76,100, up roughly 0.6% on the day. The calm follows a brutal Friday session in which the leading cryptocurrency fell about 5.2% in 24 hours, as a post-midterm bounce faded and a fresh wave of tech-stock selling weighed on risk assets.

While the rebound is welcome for bulls, it remains thin. Price is inching higher while institutional money keeps moving the other way—a gap that has become the most important dynamic to watch in the Bitcoin market.

ETF Outflows Continue

U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $411.9 million in net outflows on Friday, the second consecutive session of withdrawals. Almost all of the money left BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), which saw roughly $403 million in redemptions. Fidelity’s FBTC moved in the opposite direction, pulling in $42.8 million.

The broader picture is worse: net withdrawals for November have reached approximately $1.28 billion through Friday, and Wednesday was the only session this month to close with positive flows. That marks a sharp reversal from late September, when spot Bitcoin ETFs erased their 2026 deficit and annual flows turned positive. For now, institutions appear to be waiting on the sidelines rather than stepping in to buy the drop.

Leverage Gets Flushed Out

Friday’s slide was amplified by forced selling in derivatives markets. More than $1.27 billion in crypto positions were liquidated over 24 hours, with bullish bets accounting for over $1.1 billion of that total. When leveraged longs are wiped out at this scale, exchanges close positions automatically and the drop tends to accelerate.

The upside is that a significant amount of excess leverage has now been cleared out, potentially giving the market a cleaner base to rebuild from. The flush also follows a stretch where on-chain data hinted at an overheated market. At the start of October, CryptoQuant flagged that Bitcoin’s unrealized profit had reached a 21-month high—a reading that often precedes profit-taking.

Regulatory Pressure Mounts

Beyond flows and leverage, the regulatory backdrop is getting tougher on several fronts. The U.S. Treasury moved to cut crypto exchange MEXC off from American financial institutions, alleging the platform handled at least $16 billion in suspicious transactions linked to sanctions evasion and other illicit activity between 2021 and 2026.

In Europe, Greece approved a new tax regime for digital assets. Gains above an annual €500 threshold will be taxed at 10%, while staking, lending and DeFi income faces a 15% levy from January 2027. The FTX saga also returned to the headlines, with Binance and founder Changpeng Zhao seeking records from investor Kevin O’Leary and author Michael Lewis in a $1.76 billion recovery dispute.

Meanwhile, the long-term quantum debate resurfaced. Bitcoin Core developer Cory Fields floated a mechanism that would force potential quantum attackers to put up BTC as collateral, which legitimate owners could then claim. The idea remains conceptual and would depend on quantum-resistant wallets being in place.

Bitcoin Price Levels to Watch

Technically, Bitcoin is trading in a narrow but important range. On the downside, $73,000 is the key level, sitting close to the daily 300-day moving average and widely cited as the next support if current levels give way.

On the upside, bulls first need to reclaim $78,500. Above that, $80,000 is the nearby recovery marker, and the $80,000–$82,000 zone is the major resistance Bitcoin must clear convincingly before a stronger recovery gains credibility. The short-term test is simple: can this weekend’s bounce hold without a turnaround in ETF flows? Without fresh institutional demand, rallies risk staying shallow.

Altcoins Trade Mixed

The rest of the market mostly followed Bitcoin’s lead with small moves. Ethereum rose 0.95% to $2,247.99, though Ethereum ETFs have seen outflow days of their own recently. XRP slipped 0.82% to $1.1782.

Solana gained 0.71% to $90.22, BNB added 0.48% to $695.23, and Cardano rose 0.65% to $0.1846. Among meme coins, Dogecoin dipped 0.31%, Shiba Inu fell 1.53%, and TRUMP traded flat.
