Bitget Marks 8th Anniversary With Enhanced Security and Compliance Initiatives

Bitget Chief Legal Officer Hon Ng announced the crypto exchange's security and compliance efforts during its 8th anniversary celebration. The platform is transitioning from a derivatives exchange to a Universal Exchange (UEX) serving over 125 million users, with expansion into crypto, tokenized equities, and commodities markets.

Proof of Reserves Expansion

Bitget implemented a Proof of Reserves mechanism in December 2022 and has released reserve data monthly since then. The exchange maintains a minimum reserve ratio of 1:1 and uses Merkle Tree verification.

The platform's 46th consecutive Proof of Reserves report for September 2026 showed a total reserve ratio of 135%, with an average reserve ratio exceeding 120%. Bitget expanded Proof of Reserves coverage from four assets to 19, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and XRP.

Ng stated that as users access more assets and markets, "the scope of what they can independently verify should grow as well."

Bitget also maintains a Protection Fund, established in 2022 with initial funding of $300 million. The fund's average balance reached approximately $382 million in August 2026.

Security and Compliance Framework

Beyond reserves, Bitget implements account security measures including two-factor authentication, FIDO2, and WebAuthn passkeys. The exchange employs safeguards against unauthorized withdrawals and uses transaction monitoring with anomaly detection.

The exchange launched a Market Integrity and Token Accountability Framework this year to track abnormally high activity, manipulation risks, and illiquidity in wallets.

Bitget has expanded its regulatory presence across Argentina, Australia, El Salvador, Georgia, Mauritius, Mexico, New Zealand, South Africa, Switzerland, and the UK. The company is collaborating with BlockSec on a UEX Security Standard addressing solvency, multi-asset risk isolation, privacy, monitoring, and infrastructure defense.

Bitget enters its ninth year under the theme "Built for Trades," emphasizing its commitment to security, transparency, and standards.
