NVIDIA announced a $150 billion increase to its share repurchase authorization on Monday, lifting total buyback capacity to $235 billion. The company expects to execute the remaining program through fiscal year 2028.
The authorization follows an $80 billion increase approved earlier this year after Q1 fiscal earnings results. Founder and CEO Jensen Huang stated that the company's cash generation provides capacity to invest in technologies advancing its AI transformation while returning capital to shareholders.
Open Agent Safety Platform Launch
NVIDIA introduced the Open Agent Safety Platform, an open software platform and reference system design for governing AI agents from testing through deployment. The platform combines two components: OpenShell and Sentry.
OpenShell sandboxes agent execution, traces actions, and enforces policy on NVIDIA Vera CPUs, with capability to extend to Arm and Intel platforms. Sentry runs on NVIDIA BlueField-4 DPUs to monitor AI agent behavior, quarantining and stopping agents that attempt to move outside their software boundaries in milliseconds.
NVIDIA executives said the platform could have prevented a Hugging Face breach tied to rogue AI agents and addresses concerns following public incidents in which frontier models escaped sandboxes.
Industry Partners and Scope
Over 100 industry partners were named in the announcement, including Anthropic, Cisco, CrowdStrike, Dell, Hugging Face, JPMorgan Chase, Microsoft, Palantir, Salesforce, SAP, Scale AI, ServiceNow, and SpaceX.
Huang emphasized that artificial intelligence's potential can only be realized by solving AI safety, requiring full-stack engineering across software, hardware, compute, and robotics.
