Police in Dorset are investigating a string of burglaries that took place between September 30 and October 11, 2026. The break‑ins affected homes on Oakhurst Road and Pinehurst Road while the occupants were away.
In addition to jewellery, watches and cash, thieves stole collections of Pokémon cards. The total value of the stolen items is estimated at around £10,000 ($13,400). Officers noted that the cards are attractive to criminals because they are small, portable and can be resold quickly online.
Police Constable Anya Parvin said the force is seeking any dash‑cam or doorbell footage that might help identify the perpetrators. She also asked the public to report any offers to purchase the missing cards.
Why Pokémon Cards Command High Prices
Collectors value older cards for their scarcity. Production of Pokémon cards increased from roughly 1.5‑2 billion per year before 2019 to more than 10 billion per year today, meaning two‑thirds of all cards have been printed since 2019. Well‑preserved pre‑2019 cards are therefore limited in supply, driving up prices.
Even recent “chase” cards can fetch four‑figure sums. Special Illustration Rares and Alternate Arts from sets such as Prismatic Evolutions and Evolving Skies often trade above £1,000 ($1,340), with some examples exceeding £2,000 ($2,690). A rare card sold for a record $16.5 million earlier this year.
