Polygon Labs announced on October 29 that its Open Money Stack supports Solana-based businesses throughout stablecoin payment flows, from bank deposits to on-chain balances and bank payouts. The infrastructure combines account services, fiat conversion, wallets and routing capabilities.
How the Integration Works
The Open Money Stack allows customers to fund accounts through bank transfers, cards, cash or digital assets. Users can then route supported tokens between Solana, Polygon and other chains. Polygon positioned the integration as infrastructure that operates behind payment applications without requiring users to manage bridges directly.
Infrastructure Convergence
The development illustrates how public blockchains are converging as payment infrastructure. Businesses may prefer Solana for specific workflows while still requiring counterparties and customers on Ethereum-compatible networks, traditional bank systems or cash distribution channels.
Operational Considerations
The final stage of digital payments remains complex. While blockchain transfers settle quickly, recipients still need accessible funds, and providers must reconcile records, comply with local regulations and handle transaction reversals.
Support for a network does not guarantee that all banks, tokens or jurisdictions are available to every customer. Know-your-customer requirements, licensing, settlement times, integration costs and counterparty risks remain operational challenges even as cross-chain transfers become more accessible.
What to Watch
Meaningful adoption will depend on whether payment providers can reduce failed payouts, reconciliation work and settlement costs while maintaining user clarity. Commercial integrations and geographic expansion will provide more insight than transaction volume claims alone.
Changes to infrastructure may not directly correlate with changes in token demand. Revenue may accrue to companies, protocol treasuries or service providers without creating equivalent benefits for token holders. Market impact depends on adoption, competition and fee structures.
