Solana (SOL) is trading around $121.63 as of early October, down approximately 4% over the previous 24 hours after testing the $120 resistance level. The decline comes amid broader bearish momentum in cryptocurrency markets, despite U.S. inflation figures arriving below expectations. Current trading volume stands at $3.7 billion, representing roughly 5.6% of the token's circulating supply valuation.
Alpenglow Upgrade Advances on Testnet
The Alpenglow network enhancement, currently operational in Solana's testing environments, targets a significant reduction in transaction finality times. The upgrade aims to decrease transaction finality from approximately 12 seconds to below 100 milliseconds, with initial testing data suggesting performance may exceed these benchmarks.
Should the upgrade succeed on mainnet, Solana would achieve substantial throughput advantages over competing networks. The enhancement would also maintain lower transaction costs than EVM-compatible chains while preserving a more decentralized validator distribution than BNB Chain.
Application Revenue and Ecosystem Growth
Solana's decentralized application ecosystem reached a nine-month revenue peak in September, generating $180 million and capturing 32% of cross-chain blockchain application revenue. On September 11 alone, the platform produced approximately $8 million in decentralized application activity, while that same week's decentralized exchange volume reached $16.59 billion. Solana's all-time DEX volume has surpassed $3 trillion.
Total value locked in Solana's decentralized finance infrastructure has exceeded $6.5 billion.
Institutional Investment and Technical Outlook
Spot Solana ETFs in the United States accumulated $271 million in net purchases during September, representing the strongest monthly inflow in 10 months. A single trading session on September 26 delivered $86.6 million in daily inflows, marking a record for these investment products.
Technically, SOL established a local peak near $126 before entering a series of descending highs. Traders are monitoring whether the asset consolidates in the $110-$112 range before potentially advancing toward higher levels. Analysts attribute the bullish narrative to a combination of institutional accumulation through ETF products and the anticipated mainnet deployment of Alpenglow.
