Strategy has reached a new record for Bitcoin holdings after purchasing 1,665 BTC for $142.7 million between September 21 and September 27. The company now holds 847,666 BTC, surpassing its previous record of 847,363 BTC set in June.
According to an SEC filing, Strategy paid an average of $85,681 per Bitcoin. Its total holdings were acquired for $63.95 billion at an average price of $75,437 per coin.
Funding the Purchase
The Bitcoin acquisition was funded through Strategy's at-the-market offering program. The company sold 1.47 million shares of MSTR common stock, generating $246.2 million in net proceeds. Of this amount, $142.7 million was directed toward Bitcoin purchases and $103.5 million was used for preferred stock repurchases.
Preferred Stock Buybacks
Strategy repurchased 1.53 million shares of its Variable Rate Series A Perpetual Stretch Preferred Stock (STRC) for $151.7 million. The company has spent hundreds of millions on STRC buybacks as the preferred stock trades below its stated amount. According to the latest filing, $723.5 million remains available under the company's digital credit securities repurchase program.
Cash Position
Strategy reported $6.02 billion in USD assets as of September 27, consisting of a $5.02 billion USD Reserve and $1 billion in USD Cash. During the latest week, the company used $48.1 million of USD Cash to fund preferred stock repurchases and $22.1 million from its USD Reserve to pay preferred-stock dividends.
The latest weekly disclosure shows Strategy buying Bitcoin for a second consecutive week, marking a continuation of purchases that resumed in August after the company sold 6,948 BTC between May and August.
