NYSE Adds Blockchain.com as Gateway to Tokenized Securities Market

NYSE Group and Blockchain.com signed a memorandum of understanding on September 23 that would give Blockchain.com users access to US-listed shares and exchange-traded funds on NYSE's planned digital trading venue. The agreement is subject to regulatory approval and establishes a two-way market-data relationship spanning stocks and crypto assets.

The deal positions Blockchain.com as a distribution channel to reach crypto-native investors before NYSE's tokenized securities market launches. Blockchain.com operates more than 44 million confirmed accounts and already distributes tokenized US equities through a partnership with Ondo Finance.

NYSE's Tokenization Platform

NYSE unveiled its digital platform in January with plans for 24-hour trading of tokenized US shares and ETFs, fractional orders, immediate on-chain settlement, and stablecoin-based funding. The venue would support tokenized versions of traditionally issued securities alongside assets issued directly in digital form, while preserving shareholder rights such as dividends and voting.

Market Opportunity

Wall Street firms are positioning for a larger market in blockchain-represented assets. Citi Institute estimates tokenized financial assets could reach $5.5 trillion by 2030 in its base case scenario, up from approximately $17 billion currently, with public equities and Treasuries expected to drive much of the expansion. In a bull case scenario, the estimate reaches $8.2 trillion.

Citi estimates that if 10 percent of US retail investors adopt on-chain products by the end of the decade, demand for tokenized public equities alone could reach approximately $2.6 trillion. Around-the-clock access, fractional ownership, and faster settlement are among the features expected to attract digitally native investors.

Building Distribution Channels

Blockchain.com joins other crypto platforms being positioned as distribution gateways for NYSE's tokenization push. In March, Intercontinental Exchange, NYSE's parent company, struck a strategic agreement with OKX that would give the crypto exchange's customer base access to NYSE tokenized-equity markets. OKX reports serving more than 120 million accounts globally.

NYSE has also brought Securitize into the infrastructure layer, naming the tokenization firm as the first digital transfer agent eligible to mint blockchain-native securities for issuers using the platform.

Data Integration

The September 23 agreement includes a data-sharing component. ICE Data Services plans to distribute Blockchain.com crypto pricing and analytics to its institutional data subscribers. Blockchain.com intends to integrate ICE and NYSE feeds into its app, putting real-time stock information in front of its users.

The trading component of the arrangement remains subject to regulatory approval. The companies have not disclosed when Blockchain.com users could connect to the NYSE venue, which securities would be available, or which jurisdictions would qualify.
